Building Relationships and Forging a Community Partner

by Faye Fulone Sweeney

A lot of the work we do here at CMCHC is about building relationships.  Once a relationship with an organization or an individual is strong then everyone benefits.  For example, I now have a very good working relationship with the Central MA Regional Library System (CMRLS).  It has been beneficial to me personally and to the Resource Center, which is considered the largest public health library in Central MA.  I bring a new lens to CMRLS because the Resource Center is considered a “special” library and there aren’t too many of them around.

What is the Central MA Regional Library System and why is it a good partner?  CMRLS is “your library (and my library’s) library.  A force behind the scenes, providing all that a library needs to get supercharged and champion greater success for people living, working and studying in central Massachusetts.”  The small staff delivers a large number of services to help with a library’s needs.  CMRLS offers a personal touch that fosters individual growth and collective power in over 250 libraries.  Every public library in the 72 communities served by CMRLS is a member with free and easy access to CMRLS’ knowledgeable and responsive staff; a comprehensive array of FREE services; and many opportunities to share ideas and collaborate.

CMRLS services are provided through state funds administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Being a member of CMRLS allows me the opportunity to connect with other librarians and see how they are working through this tough economy while keeping up-to-date resources available to patrons.  Training opportunities are available that will help me to help my patrons more efficiently and I am able to share information about public health issues.

Partnering with CMRLS is just one example of the many community entities in Central MA that help me help you.
