CHNA 9 is seeking applications for a Fiscal Agent to manage CHNA 9 finances. Proposals must be postmarked, emailed or faxed by October 10, 2008. Awards will be announced by October 20, 2008.  Start-up is October 31, 2008. The contract is for one year, renewable pending satisfactory review of service.

News Challenge Grants
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation's New Challege Grants provide funding for neighborhood-focused projects that develop services and programs for the local community, and distribute or disseminate the programs, or information about the programs, through the media. Deadline for the application is November 1, 2008. Please click here for more information. 

Needle Exchange Program  
The Comer Foundation provides support to not-for-profit organizations focused on needle exchange and other harm-reduction strategies within the drug-using community, and seeks to facilitate the process between organizations and communities committed to creating and maintaining health. Average single-year grants range from $5,000 to $30,000 and the application is due November 1, 2008. For more information, please click here to be brought to The Comer Foundation website.
 
Campus Suicide Prevention Grant
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is now accepting applications for its Campus Suicide Prevention grants for the 2009 fiscal year. The 21 grants will go toward improving mental and behavioral health services for students, such as depression and substance use, which may lead to suicide ideation or attempts. The grants may be used in conjunction with college counseling centers, college and university psychological services centers, mental health centers, psychological training clinics, or evidence-based mental health and substance abuse programs. Eligible applicants include both public and private institutions of higher learning. Awards may be up to $100,000 a year for up to 3 years for qualified grantees. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) will award a total of $1.5 million in grants to study the Interaction of HIV, Drug Use, and the Criminal Justice System under the R01 research-project grants process. Two to four new grants will be awarded, with individual awards of up to $500,000 made. Nonprofits, for-profit entities, schools, governments and others may apply for funding. Application deadline is Nov. 25. For more details, see the full grant announcement online.

This initiative solicits R01 applications linking drug abuse, HIV/AIDS prevention, and the criminal justice system. Applications should include research projects for developing interventions or research on translating and disseminating effective interventions into practice settings. Criminal justice settings, include facilities, as well as community based programs. All phases of incarceration  in jails, prisons, and juvenile justice settings will be considered, as well as community supervision programs and other alternatives to incarceration. Adolescent and adult offenders, their drug use and sexual partners and influential members of their social networks are populations of interest. Both injection and non-injection drug use may be included. Consideration of co-morbid conditions such as psychiatric disorders is encouraged.
